While talking about the wounds helps, because it is important to be listened to nonjudgmentally, humans also need connection, or what is referred to as healthy attachment. We also know that psychic wounds impact us physically, in our nervous and endocrine systems, and in areas such as the gut, or the “enteric brain.” Therapy also, then, also needs to address the areas of our body that have become disregulated, or “stuck.” By working directly with the wound, both somatically (with the body) and transpersonally (with the relationship), my clients are able to move through what they once experienced as terrifying emotions, to a place of calm and resiliency. You can get help for this through Somatic experiencing.
